Obstetrics Gynecological Nursing

The goal of the Obstetric and Gynecological Department is to be the best in the field of maternity and pediatric health nursing education, practice, and research. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing equips students with a comprehensive understanding of the entire maternity cycle, including the birth process, pregnancy, labor, and the postnatal period. Students gain in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiological changes during pregnancy. Additionally, the program trains students to recognize high-risk cases and formulate specialized care plans for these situations. Nurses at the diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels also receive specialized training in obstetrics and gynecological nursing skills

Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing is a specialized field within nursing that focuses on the care of women throughout their reproductive lives. This field encompasses a wide range of responsibilities and skills related to maternal and women’s health.

Maternal Care: Involves providing care to women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. This includes monitoring maternal and fetal health, supporting labor and delivery, and addressing postpartum recovery. Focuses on women’s health issues beyond pregnancy, including menstrual disorders, reproductive system diseases, contraceptive counseling, and menopause management.

Conduct routine check-ups, screen for potential complications, and provide education on prenatal health, nutrition, and lifestyle. Support women through labor and delivery, monitor vital signs, manage pain, and ensure a safe delivery for both mother and baby. Manage the recovery process after childbirth, address postnatal complications, provide support for breastfeeding, and educate new mothers on infant care and postpartum health. Conditions such as menstrual disorders, pelvic pain, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Provide preventive care, including Pap smears and breast exams. Understand the anatomy and physiological changes that occur during pregnancy and throughout a woman’s reproductive life. Identify high-risk pregnancies and gynecological conditions, and develop tailored care plans to manage these risks effectively.

Prepared to handle obstetric emergencies, such as preeclampsia, hemorrhage, and complications during labor.

Objectives

Monitor the health of pregnant women through regular check-ups, screenings, and assessments to ensure a healthy pregnancy and detect any complications early.

Assist in the labor and delivery process, providing support, monitoring, and interventions as needed to ensure the safety and well-being of both mother and newborn.

Offer care and support to mothers after childbirth, including monitoring recovery, managing postnatal complications, and providing education on infant care and breastfeeding.

Provide care for various gynecological issues, including menstrual disorders, contraceptive counseling, and treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Educate women on reproductive health topics, including menstrual health, contraception options, and sexual health, to empower them to make informed decisions.

Identify and assess risk factors that may complicate pregnancy or delivery, such as gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, and multiple pregnancies.

Implement appropriate interventions and closely monitor both mother and baby to manage complications and ensure positive outcomes.

Offer guidance and support to women planning for pregnancy, including health optimization and lifestyle modifications.

Provide care and support for women experiencing menopause, including managing symptoms and offering hormone replacement therapy or other treatments as appropriate.

Conduct routine screenings and assessments to prevent or detect health issues early, such as Pap smears for cervical cancer and mammograms for breast cancer.

Educate and administer vaccinations relevant to women’s health, such as the HPV vaccine, to prevent certain cancers and infections.

Advocate for women’s health needs and ensure that their rights and preferences are respected throughout their care.

Engage in advocacy and education efforts to promote policies and practices that support women’s health and improve access to care.

Offer psychological and emotional support to women dealing with pregnancy-related issues, gynecological conditions, or reproductive health challenges.

Provide counseling and resources for women facing infertility, pregnancy loss, or other significant life events related to reproductive health.

Maintain high standards of clinical competency in obstetric and gynecological care through ongoing education and adherence to best practices.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the safety and effectiveness of care provided in obstetrics and gynecology.

Contribute to research efforts aimed at advancing knowledge and practices in obstetrics and gynecology.

Apply evidence-based practices to ensure that care is based on the latest research and clinical guidelines.
